There are many scholarship opportunities for study abroad students. Some of these scholarships are specifically for students at the University of Arkansas while others are nationally competitive and administered by outside organizations. We’ve compiled some resources to help jumpstart your search.

University of Arkansas Study Abroad Scholarships

College/School Scholarships

    • College of Education and Health Professions Study Abroad Grants
      Two $500 scholarships. Must be a COEHP degree-seeking student to be eligible to apply.
      Deadlines: Summer/Fall/Year -- February 15 | Spring – October 15



    • College of Engineering Study Abroad Grants
      Depending on the duration of the program, award amounts vary. Must be an engineering major to be eligible to apply.

    • Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences Study Abroad Grants
      Depending on the duration of the program, awards vary between $200-$2,000. Must be AFLS degree-seeking student to be eligible to apply. For more information, visit Dale Bumpers International Programs Office.
      Deadline: Early February

    • Honors College Study Abroad Grants
      Depending on the duration of the program and the strength of the proposal, award amounts vary.
      For more details on Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 deadlines, please visit the Honors College website.
      Fall Cycle 1 (for programs that begin in Spring/Summer/Fall of the current or upcoming academic year):
      For students who have already completed at least 6 honors hours at the University of Arkansas prior to the fall semester. Students submit a proposal (see Honors College website for specifics). Freshmen may not apply for this cycle.
      Fall Cycle 2 (for programs that begin in Summer/Fall/Spring of the current or upcoming academic year):
      For students who will have completed at least 6 hours of honors courses at the University of Arkansas by the end of their current semester. Students submit a proposal (see Honors College website for specifics).
      Deadlines: Early Fall for both cycles; (see Honors College website for specifics)

    • Sam Walton College of Business Study Abroad Grants
      Depending on the duration of the program as well as level of need and/or merit, award amounts vary.
      Must be a WCOB degree-seeking student to be eligible to apply. For more information, visit the Walton College Global Engagement Office.
      Deadlines: Summer/Fall/Year – Early February | Spring – Early October

    • Sturgis Honors Study Abroad Grants
      Depending on the duration of the program, award amounts between $2,500-$10,000. Must be a Fulbright College student in departmental or four-year honors program with at least a 3.5 GPA and six completed honors credit hours completed by the date of application. Substantial fellowship holders are ineligible to apply. For more information and to aplly, visit Fulbright College Honors Program.

Departmental/Specialized Scholarships

    • African American Studies Department Study Abroad Grants
      Award amounts vary. For more information and to apply, contact Dr. Calvin White.


    • Cleveland C. Burton Study Abroad Scholarship
      Award amount up to $5,000, and two scholarships are given annually. Must be Fulbright College student with at least sophomore standing and a 3.5+ GPA.       Deadline: Spring/Summer – October or November | Fall – March

    • J.W. & Elizabeth Fulbright Scholarship
      Award amount is $10,000+ for one year of study abroad. For students interested in (but not necessarily a major) in one of the following fields: literature, history (including theatre, art, and music history), jurisprudence, philosophy, archaeology, comparative languages, and those aspects of social sciences that employ philosophical or historical approaches. Must be Fulbright College student with at least sophomore standing. For more information, visit the Fulbright College.

    • John L. Imhoff Global Studies Endowment
      Award amounts vary. Must be majoring in Industrial Engineering. For more information and to apply, please contact Dr. Ed Pohl.

    • Johnetta Cross Brazzell Study Abroad Scholarship
      Award amounts vary between $1,000-$1,200; one to two awards are given annually. To enhance the diversity of the study abroad experience, this scholarship will be awarded to University of Arkansas students from underrepresented communities (i.e.,  first-generation college students, low-income students, members of ethnic or minority groups, females in STEM, etc). Complete the Office of Study Abroad Scholarship Application, and include in your personal statement how you qualify as an underrepresented student in study abroad.  Deadline: February 15  


    • Middle East Studies Study Abroad Scholarship
      Study abroad grants are awarded on a competitive basis to students majoring in Middle Eastern Studies. Graduate students seeking funding for overseas research should contact the King Fahd Center directly.
      To apply, complete the application and turn it in to the Office of Study Abroad & International Exchange directly. Deadline:  Early February

    • Office of Study Abroad Scholarship
      Depending on the duration of the program, award amounts vary between $200-$800. To be eligible to apply, students should have a 3.0 GPA.
      Deadlines: Summer/Fall/Year -- February 15 | Spring – October 15 



    • World Language, Literature, and Culture Departmental Scholarship
      Depending on the duration of the program, award amounts vary between $200-$600. For foreign language majors and minors, preference given to programs with languages taught at U of A.
