Professional Development Opportunities

Faculty have the opportunity to propose leading or participating in U of A administered study abroad programs.  Planning should begin at least 18 months ahead of intended program dates.

Additionally, faculty and staff interested in teaching, conducting research, or gaining professional experience abroad should carefully consider the following opportunities:

Fulbright Scholar Programs

  • Description: Close to 500 grants (2 - 12 months duration) for teaching, research or combination teaching/research in over 125 countries

Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminars

  • Description: Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminars in India, Russia, Japan, Korea, France and Germany (2 weeks)

Faculty Development Seminars

  • Description: Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) offers 1-2 week long seminars in 20+ countries during the summer and in early January to assist faculty in enhancing their syllabi, internationalizing the curricula, and increasing global understanding

  • Description: Faculty International Development Awards (FIDA) available to affiliate members of University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) to enroll as a full participant in a summer program; grant covers most expenses

Visiting Professor Programs

  • Description: University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) encourages applications from faculty at member institutions (U of A is a member) to teach 1-2 classes at study abroad program sites for one semester or summer term

  • Description: Study Abroad Staff Grants (SAS) available to affiliated members of University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC)  for staff to spend 2-4 weeks at a study abroad program site
