Highlights & Photos
At the Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado Puebla (UPAEP), the University Language Center offers the Spanish Immersion Program (PITEE), which includes a five week summer course in 2010. This program combines the learning of the language and culture hand in hand. It includes homestays, academic activities, workshops, fieldtrips to nearby sites and museums, and weekend tours.
Students will have an everyday experience of living with a Mexican family, in which they will participate more as family members than merely house guests. It is an enriching, cultural experience that opens many doors.
Students will acquire effective language skills together with the knowledge of cultural, social, and historical aspects of Mexico, and thus enrich their awareness of Mexican traditions.
The program includes conversational workshops, a film series, and other free and optional workshops on cooking and dance; local field trips include visits to Pueblas's downtown area (the Alfeñique House, the Art District, and Handicraft Market, the Cathedral, the Rosario Chapel, and Santa Clara Street), as well as other nearby sites (Tlaxcala, Sta. Mónica, Sta. Rosa, the Loreto and Guadalupe Forts, and more).
Weekend excursions included in the program fee take students to Mexico City‐Teotihuacan, to Cuetzalan, and to the beach and the state of Veracruz.
