The state of Puebla takes its name from the capital city, which was originally called La Puebla de Los Angeles. The formal and current name is Heróica Puebla de Zaragoza, after Ignacio Zaragoza, a General who defeated the imperial French army at the Battle of Puebla on May the 5th 1862.

Puebla is one of the safest cities in Mexico as well as one of the most beautiful. Puebla is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it combines the prehispanic and colonial with the modern, industrial and business cities of the country.
