Summer Intensive Japanese Language

Overview

The Intensive Intermediate Japanese Language Program (designed for students who have completed JAPN 1013 or higher) offers the students an opportunity to develop their Japanese language skills quickly by intensive training, to experience Japanese culture and lifestyle, and to earn an internationally recognized certificate of Japanese language proficiency. Course Area Offered:
Japanese language courses for 6 credit hours, and the official Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) upon completion of the program. The program requires participants have successfully completed JAPN 1013 or better. COURSE INFORMATION

Accommodations: Students will stay at facilities arranged by the partner institutions in Japan. Additionally, if possible, there will be an opportunity to spend a weekend with a host family while visiting Shimane.

Excursions: Students will visit Shimane Prefecture (the heartland of traditional Japan) and Tokyo/Yokohama (the symbol of modern Japan). As part of the explorations out of class, this trip will guide students to a wide range of venues in Japan such as historical landmarks, museums, state-of-the-art corporate facilities, and metropolitan attractions. Shimane University and Kanto Gakuin University (both UA partner institutions) will coordinate cultural activities to complement the itinerary.

Estimated Costs: $3,500 + Airfare (est. between $1,500 and $1,700) + Personal Expenses ESTIMATED COSTS & FUNDING



Faculty Leader:
The trip will be accompanied by Prof. Tatsuya Fukushima of the University of Arkansas Department of World Languages, Literature & Culture. Dr. Fukushima will be on site for the duration of the program and provide instruction, along with the experienced staff at Kanto Gakuin and Shimane.
