Intercultural Communication & Film in Sydney & Melbourne

Highlights & Photos

This three‐week seminar will enable students to fulfill both social science and humanities requirements while experiencing life in Australia, earning 6 hours of credit.

Our study in Sydney and Melbourne of intercultural communication and Australian cinema will include viewing and discussing contemporary films shown at the prestigious Melbourne International Film Festival.Such issues as attitudes towards immigration and the indigenous Aboriginal population in Australia, and the identity of “Australian culture” will be considered.

To better grasp the history and current makeup of Australian culture, we will take field trips in and around the cities of Sydney and Melbourne. One of the field trips will include a visit to the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI). Students will also have the opportunity to visit galleries and museums and pursue independent travel.

Leadership for the program comes from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
