Transfer Credit

The credit pre-approval form is only one part of the transfer credit process. It is necessary to have as much information as possible to have the credit transfer in the manner you plan. Please collect course descriptions to show advisors/administrators when completing the petition form and bring home syllabi after you complete your study abroad program. It is not always possible to enroll in courses listed on your course pre-approval form. Be sure to meet with your advisor and understand what will work as alternatives. Feel free to e-mail your academic advisor if necessary.

It is your responsibility to request a transcript be sent to the Office of Study Abroad. If possible, request a transcript for your records as a back-up copy.

Transcript Process

When the Office of Study Abroad receives your transcript we do the following:

Send your original transcript, copy of your petition to enroll in study abroad, and any course descriptions or syllabus (if available) to the International Admissions Office.

We keep a copy of your transcript in our office files. If you would like a copy for your records, notify us and we will prepare it for you to pick up.

Send you an e-mail notifying you that this process has occurred.

You can expect to wait 2-6 weeks for your transfer credit to be posted. It may be longer if there is a hold-up in a particular department. If you credit has not been posted after 8 weeks, or if it does not look as you expected, contact our office and we will assist you.

Scholarship Renewal & Transcripts

Transcripts can take months to be sent to the UA. If you are on scholarship you may receive a letter stating your scholarship will be cancelled unless your show transfer credit by a certain date and your transcript is nowhere to be found! Contact the Office of Study Abroad and we will contact the Scholarship Office on your behalf. If you are receiving a Governor's Award, Academic Challenge Grant, or any other State of Arkansas Dept. of Higher Education scholarship, please do not panic. Our office will send a letter to the Dept of Higher Education verifying that you have studied abroad and they will extend the deadline. Please contact our office to confirm that we have your name on our list.

GPA- Non UA Programs

As transfer credit, your study abroad grades will not be calculating into your cumulative GPA. Your study abroad credit and grades will appear on your transcript and graduate schools may consider this in the admissions process. In addition, your study abroad grades may be calculated into your GPA for purposes of determining scholarship renewal eligibility.
