They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so check out some of the photos from the summer '07 group!
This four week, six credit hour program is offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. Located at the National University of Ireland at Galway, the program offers students a chance to meet Irish writers, sharpen their creative writing skills, get to know a little Irish culture and explore Ireland.
Included in the program are writing workshops, a seminar on Modern Irish Literature, and thrice-weekly guest readings by Ireland's most prominent writers (including Theo Dorgan, Paula Meehan, Mary Morrissy, Pat McCabe, Dermot Healey, Mike McCormack, Eva Bourke and Gerard Donovan).
Course Offerings/Descriptions
UA ENGL 398V/510V MODERN IRISH LITERATURE
A seminar that involves reading and analysis of the development and style of modern English literature in Ireland. Among the writers whose work will be studied are: James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Patrick Kavanagh, Frank O'Connor, Sean O'Faoláin, Edna O'Brien, Elizabeth Bowen, Seamus Heaney, William Trevor, Paul Muldoon, Paula Meehan, and Benedict Kiely.
UA ENGL 3013/5013 CREATIVE WRITING
A workshop in the writing of poetry or fiction. Participants may choose either workshop, engaging in experimentation, writing and rewriting under the direction of the faculty. Workshops will involve discussions of participants' writing in an atmosphere of constructive suggestions and support.
Applicants will be asked to submit samples of their work.

Students will be housed in 4 bedroom suites (with kitchen facilities) at the Cúirt na Coiribe student residence near campus.
Program Costs
Estimated Program Fee: $3,600 + UA tuition*
UA tuition: $954.30 (6 hrs. undergraduate); $1,683.90 (6 hrs. graduate)
* Tuition discounts are not allowed
What is included in the costs?
Program Fee includes instructional costs for study at the National University of Ireland, Galway, guest workshops, and most field trips/excursions, and 4 weeks single lodging, with kitchen facilities.
Fee does not include UA tuition, air transportation, meals, passport fees, personal travel and incidental expenses.

Financial Aid/Scholarships
Financial aid and scholarships are available to UA students. Visiting students must apply for financial aid through their home institution. Honors students should apply for study abroad grants through the UA Honors College. Contact the UA Office of Study Abroad for applications and deadlines or visit the Honors website.
Eligibility
Students must have completed a minimum of 24 hours by the beginning of the program with a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better. Applicants are asked to complete a brief interview with the program leader and they must be prepared to submit a small portfolio of their work. In addition, one academic recommendation from a faculty member or academic advisor is required.
Deadline
The application deadline is March 3, 2008. Applications will be considered after this date on a space available basis. A deposit is required upon acceptance into the program.
