Before you do anything...start applying for a passport! Go to your local post office or to http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html New and renewed passports are taking many months to process so apply now to avoid disappointment!
There are many ways to find the perfect study abroad program for you.
This website contains lots of information on all your different options. You should also visit our office where you will find paper copies of all our program catalogs, information on funding and past student evaluations.
So...take a bit of time and really think about what you want and need.
· What are your personal and academic goals, what do you hope to accomplish abroad? What type of credits do you need? Is there a subject you've always wanted to study but didn't have a chance? Check out the programs by Field of Study. See your academic advisor to find out what type of credits are necessary to finish your degree requirements. Tell your advisor that you are interested in study abroad. He/she may have suggestions of courses that are best to take abroad.
· Are you looking for a language program? Do you need beginning or intermediate classes or are you ready for full immersion? Look at the Foreign Language programs offered. Remember that some programs offer classes in English even in non-English speaking countries.
· Where do you want to go? Consider climate, proximity to other nations, urban vs rural, northern vs southern hemisphere. Go the Programs by Region page to see the differnt countries and cities available.
· How long do you want to be abroad? Programs range from 3 weeks to 1 year. Being abroad for a semester or year will let you truly experience that culture and form lasting relationships. Summer programs run by UA faculty members offer a chance to take unique UA classes while experiencing life in another country.
· What about funding? Look carefully at program fees, what is included? Which services do you need? TIP: It is easier to find scholarships for less traditional destinations such as Latin America, Eastern Europe, the MiddleEast and Africa.
