2008 University of Arkansas Faculty-led Short Term Programs

BELIZE 

Service Project   International Service Learning Project in cooperation with Peacework. Students explore the history, culture, and socio-economic development of Belize, and each student then engages in more focused study of an area that relates to a specific community field placement. Must be enrolled in HUMN 425V or HUMN 425VH for Spring Semester.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available. 

BRAZIL

Business Seminar in Brazil  Students delve into the economic, business, political, and cultural environment and trends in Brazil and are introduced to the key issues in the Brazilian/American economic and business relationship.  Must have completed ECON 2013/2023 or ECON 2143 before leaving. Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

CANADA

French in Chicoutimi   Intensive French language program in Quebec. For students who would like to continue their study of French in the unique atmosphere of French Canada.   Must have completed FREN 1013 or equivalent before leaving.  Undergraduate credit available.

CHINA

Business Seminar in China  Students investigate the economic, business, political, and cultural environment and trends in China and are introduced to the key issues in the Chinese/American economic and business relationship.  Must have completed ECON 2013/2023 or ECON 2143 before leaving.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

ENGLAND

Communication at Oxford/Cambridge   For students with an interest in communication, history, and law.  Focusing on the history and philosophy of freedom of expression, as well as the communicative aspects that shape legal cultures.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.
Theatre in London  Students interested in drama, theatre, history and literature.  Insight into the ways in which the literary and dramaturgical aspects of theatre work together to enrich and stimulate understanding of plays.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.
FRANCE

French in Besançon   Intensive French language program at the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée. For students who would like to continue their study of French and experience real French culture.  Undergraduate credit available. 

GREECE

Classics  Greek Civilization & Aesthetics. For students with a background or interest in classical Greek history, politics, art, religion, literature or anthropology. Offered odd-numbered years.  Undergraduate and graduate credit available. 
MIS Seminar in Greece   Students explore the economic, business, political, and cultural environment and trends in Greece and are introduced to the key issues in the Greek/American economic and business relationship.  Must have completed ECON 2013/2023 or ECON 2143 before leaving.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

INDIA

Engineering   Engineering, Culture, Art & Religion.  The program was developed to address the changes in technology and engineering that are taking place as more and more jobs are sent abroad. Undergraduate credit available. 
Business Seminar in India    Students explore the economic, business, political, and cultural environment and trends in India, as well as the economic relationship between the U.S. and India.  Must interview with Dr. Vikas Anand.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

IRELAND

International Writers' Course in Galway   For students with an interest in Creative Writing, Poetry and Irish Literature.  Writing Workshops, Seminar on Modern Irish Literature, and thrice-weekly guest readings by Ireland's most prominent writers. Undergraduate and graduate credit available.

ITALY

Art in Rome    Studio Art Workshop in Rome. For art majors or students with prior training in sketching or painting.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

 JAPAN

Unfamiliar Japan For students with a background or interest in Japan, Asian Studies, media studies, journalism, or inter-cultural communication. Undergraduate credit available.
Business Seminar in Japan  Students explore the economic, business, political, and cultural environment and trends in Japan, as well as the economic relationship between the U.S. and Japan.  Must have completed ECON 2013/2023 or ECON 2143 and interview with Dr. Robert Stapp.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.

JORDAN

Bioarcheological Field School in Irbid   For students with a background or interest in Archeology, Anthropology and Arabic.  This program offers a great chance to experience Jordanian culture and do field research.  Undergraduate and Graduate credit available.
MEXICO
Spanish in Cuernavaca  Spanish Language & Latin American Culture and Society. For students with a background in Spanish, and an interest in Latin American Studies and Mexican literature. Must have completed SPAN 1013 or eqivalent before leaving.  Undergraduate credit available.

MOROCCO

Arabic at Al-Akhawayn University, Ifrane  Arabic Language. For students with a background in Arabic and an interest in North African  and Middle East studies and literature. Undergraduate credit available.

RUSSIA

St. Petersburg Law Institute   For law students interested in studying international and comparative law in the historic cities of Novgorod and St. Petersburg, Russia.  Up to 5 credit hours offered toward law degree.

SOUTH AFRICA

Political, Social & Natural History  South African Civilization & Anthropology. For students with a background or interest in classical and contemporary African history, politics, geography, wildlife. Undergraduate credit available.

SWEDEN

Health Teams Abroad   For students interested in health professions such as pre-med, nursing, gerontology, speech-language pathology and other pre-therapy, as well as students in social work, psychology, business and engineering who wish to concentrate on health science.  Undergraduate credit available.
